Richard L. Knies, 87, Jasper

Richard L. Knies, 87, of Jasper, passed away at 2:24 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. 

Richard was born in Celestine, Indiana on November 16, 1931, to Ted and Margaret (Humbert) Knies. He married Carol Jean Schnell on October 23, 1954, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 

He served in the Indiana Army National Guard and was a member of the American Legion Post #147. Rich was the owner and operator of Knies Floor and Wall Covering in Jasper. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Jasper Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Celestine Community Club, and Schnellville Conservation Club. Rich enjoyed working and playing cards. 

He is survived by his wife, Carol J. Knies; one daughter, Marcia Murry (Steve) of Ireland; two sons, Mark Knies (Kathy) and Daniel Knies (Suzanne), all of Jasper; eight grandchildren, Cale and Brett Knies, Amanda Gehlhausen, Beth Beyke, Cody and Kent Murry, and Lee and Blake Knies; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Brenda Epple (C.G.) of Haubstadt; three brothers, Larry Knies of Jasper, Dallas Knies (Inez) of Celestine, and Doug Knies (Kathy) of Evansville; brother-in-law, Paul Striegel of Jasper.    

Preceding him in death was one sister, Mary Jane Striegel. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard L. Knies will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel and from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service time at the church on Monday.
