Richard “Dick” Joe Carey, 82, Petersburg
Richard “Dick” Joe Carey passed away peacefully at 7:00 a.m. on March 17, 2025, at his home in Petersburg, surrounded by his family and puppies.

He was born on August 2, 1942, in Bowman, Indiana, to Edgar Loren and Mabel Julia Carey.
He was a 1960 graduate of Petersburg High School, a member of Petersburg First United Methodist Church, a life member of Petersburg Moose Lodge 1617, VFW Post 6871, and Petersburg Odd Fellows.
Richard married Nancy Sue Fink on September 13, 1960, in Petersburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents, Edgar and Julia; and siblings, Charles Howard and Mary Ann Wyant; and grandson, Christopher Davis.
Richard is survived by a sister, Donna Frederick; children, Debbie (Marty) Beck and Alicia (Dave) Whitehead; grandchildren, Carie, Courtney, Ben (Rachel), Zach (Rileigh), Levi (Dawn) and Clayton (Brittany); and great-grandchildren, Kaden, Christopher, Andi, Joelle, Sloane, Soren, Ellis, Emmitt and Liam.
Richard married Linda Sue Hill Gladish on January 15, 2000, in Petersburg, and she survives. Also surviving are stepchildren Ron (Lisa), Cheri and Sara; step-grandchildren Megan, Justin (Kayla), Courtney, Billy Joe (Kim), Chastity (Josh), and Caleb (Sarah); and step-great-grandchildren, Hannah, Maggie, Gavin, Lilly, Fletcher, Tobias, Jenna Mae, Bodhi, Aiden, and Micah.
Richard was employed at Texas Gas Transmission for 30 years, from where he proudly retired in 1998. Richard loved to travel, fish, and tinker in his shop and surrounded himself with family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was hosting fish fries and euchre tournaments. He was an avid card player until his final days. He will be fondly remembered for his love for his friends and family, especially for supporting his kids and grandkids in all their events.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service at noon at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg. The Moose Lodge will conduct a ritual as part of the service. Interment will take place following the service at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.
