Republican Party to reorganize in March 2017
The Indiana Republican Party is set to reorganize in March of 2017, a process that occurs every four years.
Indiana’s 92 county party committees, nine district committees and State committee will elect officers who will serve until March 2021.
The timetable for the reorganization is: County party committees – March 4, 2017; District party committees – March 11, 2017; State committee – March 15, 2017.
Four officers will be elected to lead the committees: chairman, vice-chairman, sSecretary and treasurer.
According to Republican Party rules, the vice-chairman must be of the opposite sex of the chairman. There is no gender rule on the other officers.
The Republican Party Rules adopted on March 2, 2016, govern the process of reorganization. A copy of the Rules is available on the State Party website: (http://indiana.gop/sites/default/files/Republican%20State%20Party%20Rules%20.pdf).
The Dubois County reorganization meeting is set for 10:00 am EST on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Schnizelbank Restaurant, 393 3rd Avenue in Jasper, Indiana.
The persons eligible to participate in the election of officers are the Precinct Committeepersons elected at the May 2016 Primary election, the persons appointed by elected precinct committeepersons to be vice-committeepersons before May 10, 2016, and any persons appointed by the County Chairman to fill vacancies in the positions of committeeperson or vice-committeeperson before October 1, 2016.
Officers of the county party must be a qualified Primary Republican in good standing in the party. That is interpreted to be a voter who participated in the Republican Primary election when they last voted in a Primary or who has been certified a member “in good standing” by the county chairman. A Republican who does not support Republican candidates after the Primary cannot be “in good standing.”
A candidate for county chairman must declare intent to be a candidate in writing to the County Party Secretary AND the State Party Secretary at least 72 hours before the start of the reorganization meeting.
