Republican Lincoln Day Lunch full house for Lt. Gov. Ellspermann

The Dubois County Republicans held their annual Lincoln Day lunch at the Huntingburg Event Center on Saturday at Noon.

Several hundred showed up to hear keynote speaker Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann address the crowd on several topics including her first three weeks as Indiana’s second in charge.

Ellspermann spoke about progress on the Road Map for Indiana —her and Governor Mike Pence’s election theme— and how the progress has gone so far. She also touched on the air of cooperation in the General Assembly and how the atmosphere is void of the partisan rancor characterized by last year’s session.

She assured constituents that the Governor is working hard with members of the General Assembly to get his budget passed, including a 10 percent tax cut for all Hoosier workers. But, most prominent in her speech was the assertion that she could do or be where she is without the support of those who helped put her in office and those she has surrounded herself with in her administration.

“Great communities (or states) don’t happen by accident,” Ellspermann quoted. “It takes visionary, engaged people, willing to work unselfishly to make it so. And that’s what I want to see for Indiana as well as Dubois County.”

In addition to Ellspermann, other Republican representatives in office spoke briefly including state Representatives Mark Messmer with District 63, Lloyd Arnold with District 74, Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock and 8th Congressional District House Representative for Indiana, Larry Bucshon. Other local Republican elected officials also attended including Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner with several of his Council Members, and Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz.
