Reiss W. Goldman, 61, Birdseye, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at his home.

He was born on June 2, 1953, the first born child of Victor and Janice (Andry) Goldman.  He married Ruth Lueken on October 19, 1974.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Goldman; son, Zachary and wife Amy Goldman of Schnellville; daughters, Becca and husband Todd Scott of Evansville and Hannah and husband Jordan Schultz of Birdseye; grandsons, Ethan Goldman, Adam Scott and Coltyn Schultz; his mother, Janice Goldman of Birdseye; brother, Mark Goldman; sisters, Kathy and husband Ray Stroud, Debbie and husband Bruce Lane, Vikki and husband Richard Venekamp, Joyce Goldman and Kelly and husband Steve Wiseman, all of Birdseye; and several nephews, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Goldman, in 1996; and a sister-in-law, Patti Goldman, in 2001.

Mr. Goldman retired from the City of Jasper in 2006.  He had also worked as Birdseye Water Superintendent and for the Operators Union.  He was most recently self-employed as a carpenter.

He was Scoutmaster for Troop #198, helping 10 young men achieve Eagle Scout rank.  He served as a deacon at Birdseye Christian Church for more than 15 years. He and his daughter Hannah volunteered at the Dubois County Humane Society.

Horses were a favorite hobby, and he made many memories with his children while riding in the countryside.  His knowledge of trees and nature was extensive, and he was a trained weather spotter.  He loved the American West and took several trips to enjoy that area of the country.  One of his greatest joys was being a grandfather to his three grandsons, and he made special woodcraft items for them during his final months.

A private memorial service, to be held at a later date, will be officiated by Lester Kauffman, minister and friend.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Hospital Foundation, or a favorite charity.  Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Condolences, thoughts and memories may be shared at www.nassandson.com.
