Redemption Christian Church addresses sentencing of terminated children’s minister

In the nearly two years after the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrived at our Jasper Campus regarding charges against a former Children’s minister, Redemption Christian Church remains steadfast in its commitment to guarding the safety of anyone associated with or attending church services and events.

On the morning of Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the FBI alerted us of its investigation of Aaron Lockman, the church’s Jasper Campus Children’s Minister, on suspicion of possession of child sexual abuse materials. Lockman was arrested on those charges on Monday, May 20, 2024, and sentenced on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026. Redemption would also like to thank the swift and thorough actions of the local and federal law enforcement community in arresting, charging, and convicting Lockman for his horrendous crimes.

Upon learning of the allegations, Redemption immediately — and fully — cooperated with law enforcement authorities in their investigation. The church also took swift action internally, terminating Lockman’s employment at the church — effective immediately after learning of the investigation — and barring him from all church properties. Parents, as well as Redemption’s children’s and student ministry volunteers, were notified of the situation within 48 hours. In addition, the entire church congregation were notified verbally and electronically by Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Authorities have not made us aware of any children at the church ever being victimized by Lockman. Policies and procedures forbade Lockman from being alone with children as a staff member. Additionally, Lockman passed a background check and reference screening prior to employment. Unfortunately, we were among the many in Lockman’s life who were deceived — on many occasions — in this process.

While protocols are in place to protect the safety of all children and adults, we continually conduct thorough reviews to ensure we have the strongest possible safeguards in place to protect vulnerable members of our community. Additionally, we have been and continue to be committed to offering support and resources — including counseling — to anyone impacted by these events.

Redemption remains dedicated to its mission of loving God and loving people and we are steadfast in our commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability. We are thankful justice has been and is being served.
