Rebecca Knies Schaefer, 78, Tucson, Ariz.

Rebecca Knies Schaefer, 78, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Huntingburg, passed away on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz.

She was born 13 October 1947 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Charles and Marjorie (Nordhoff) Knies.

She married Richard Schaefer on 28 May 1966 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Vanderburgh County, Indiana. She worked at Personal Finance (formerly Citizens Finance) in Jasper, Indiana, for 30 years. A devout Catholic, Becky was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg as well as St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Tucson. Becky served as a eucharistic minister and a member of the RCIA team, as well as a member of Millions of
Monicas’ Group, and with the Daughters of the Immaculata. She served on the Huntingburg Park Board and co-chaired the inaugural Huntingburg Herbstfest 5K run/walk. Upon moving to Tucson, she volunteered with Reading Seed for Tucson Public Schools, at St. Peter and Paul School, Lulu Walker School, and Miles Elementary School.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Deborah (Dan Carr); granddaughter, Anna Carr; siblings, Deborah (Donald) Neu, David (Janice) Knies, Carla (Joseph) Hoffman, Chad (Kathy) Knies, and Rachel (Perry) Welp; sister-in-law Linda (Tom) Overbay; brother-in-law Mark Spore; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a great-great niece.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Donald, and daughter Tina Louise.

Mass will be held on Saturday, July 25, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Huntingburg, Indiana, with burial to follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
