Randy Schmitt, 59

Randy Schmitt, age 59, of Ireland, Indiana passed away at 8:33 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Randy was born in Jasper, Indiana on April 20, 1954 to Linus and Margaret “Peggy” (Giesler) Schmitt. He married Linda Messmer on April 16, 1977 at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, Ind.

Randy was a poultry farmer for many years.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He was a director for the Dubois County REC, a member of the Ireland Lions Club, the Ireland Sportsman’s Club, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the Jasper Outdoor Recreation.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, mushroom hunting, NASCAR racing, NFL Football, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Randy is survived by his wife, Linda Schmitt, of Ireland; one daughter, Jessica Beatty , and her husband Aaron, of Newburgh, Ind.; one son, Jeremy Schmitt, and his wife Becca, of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren, Gretchen and Kaleb Beatty, and Austin Schmitt; six sisters, Darlene Jacob, and her husband Gerald, of Ferdinand, Rosemary Heim, and her husband Kenneth, of Jasper, Margie Hubert Russman, and her husband Chuck Russman, of Louisville, Ky., Florence Schmitt, and her husband John Ward, of Evansville, Cindy Schmitt, of Evansville, and Sheryl Mehling, and her husband, Ray, of Ireland; two brothers, Amos Schmitt, of Velpen, and Charles Schmitt, and his wife Connie, of Grayson, Ga.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Funeral services for Randy Schmitt will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the American Heart Association.
