Ramona (Allen) Dittmer, 85, Boonville
Ramona (Allen) Dittmer, 85, of Boonville, died peacefully in the night, early Monday, June 18, 2018, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville.
Upon graduation from Jasper High School in 1950, she started her illustrious 28-year career in the trucking industry with Jack Lottes and Jasper & Chicago. She became the first female, truck line terminal manager in the state of Indiana with Jim McCormick and I & S, where she worked until they went out of business. Being only 46 years old, she was still a few years away from retirement, so she got on with Contel Telephone in their collections department for the next 16 years, until they were bought out by GTE. Being only 62 years old and with her husband Jack having passed six years prior, she started working for Jasper Engines & Transmissions in their collections department for the next 18 years, at which time she decided to retire at age 80! She was quite a remarkable woman!
Ramona was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jasper. One of her favorite pastimes was singing in the church choir, which she did for 75 years. She was also one of the charter members of the Music & Art Coterie Music Club and the Celebration Singers, a Dubois County Choral Group.
She was preceded in death by her son Paul Dittmer; her husband Jack Dittmer; her parents; one sister, Freida Trueblood; and one brother, Sam Allen.
Ramona is survived by her son, Joe Dittmer and his wife Gwen of Boonville; her grandson, Zach Dittmer and his wife Jayce of Tennyson; and her great-granddaughter, Lillian Dittmer of Tennyson.
Ramona is being cremated by Sunset Funeral Home and will be laid to rest next to her son Paul and husband Jack at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper at some later date, with her immediate family.
