Ralph Eldo Hemmer, 85, of the Zoar Community, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at 8:30 p.m.

He was born at Zoar on Christmas Eve 1931, to Earl and Alberta (Weitkamp) Hemmer. He lived his entire life on his beloved farm, Meadowtop. He was married to Delores Kinkade on June 5, 1955, in the Huntingburg Methodist Church.

Ralph was active in the Zoar United Methodist Church, having served more than twenty-five years as chairman of the administrative council.  He taught Sunday school, sang in the Jubilee Choir and held various other jobs in the church.  He passed the week of the Mosquito Fest, his favorite activity, having served on the forming committee forty-five years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; son, John (Janet) Hemmer of Zoar; three daughters, Becky (Ron) Brockriede of Huntingburg, Rachel (Ron) Hughes of Richmond, and Laura Hemmer of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and several foster great -grandchildren who called him “Big Pop.”

He was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice and he and his family sang gospel music for many years. He was best known for his rendition of The Lighthouse. He was a member of the Uhl Pottery Collectors Society, the Model T Ford Club of America and the Kentuckiana Crosley Club.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017, at Zoar United Methodist Church in Zoar with burial to follow at the Zoar Cemetery. Pastor Keith Chanley will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Sunday and also at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Monday. Memorials may be given to the Zoar United Methodist Church or to family wishes.
