Quinceañera rehearsal

Twin sisters Marelyn (right) and Mariela Dubon practiced their dances for their upcoming quinceañera in the Huntingburg City Park shelter house. They’ve been meeting to practice there for a few weeks now. The girls turn 15 on Saturday and are looking forward to the big get-together wth their family as they celebrate an important milestone in their lives.

Twins Marelyn and Mariela Dubon will turn 15 on Saturday, June 6 just in time for their shared quinceañera.

The girls have been practicing their six dances, three waltzes and three surprise dances, that are part of the pageantry that will be on display as they are celebrated in a shelter house at Huntingburg’s City Park.

A quinceañera is a cherished Latin American celebration marking a young woman’s 15th birthday and signifying her transition from childhood to adulthood. For many families, planning a quinceañera is an act of love that spans months — sometimes years — and the celebration itself becomes a living expression of heritage, passed down from generation to generation with tremendous pride.

The sisters said they were excited about Saturday and looked forward to seeing all their friends and family.

Here are a few photos from Thursday afternoon’s practice.
