Pursuit and arrest in Holland linked to Warrick County murder investigation

A Warrick County death investigation has been linked to a chase that ended in Holland on Saturday.

Warrick County authorities found the body of Beverly H. Karns, 30, of Evansville, at the scene of a crash in Northern Warrick County on Indiana 68 at Scales Road Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, Michael Damien Howell, 28, 8188 Dale Road, Dale, fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and officers from the sheriff’s department and Indiana State Police pursued.

Howell was apprehended on Kentucky Street in Holland near Blesch Bros. Equipment when he stopped and surrendered.

Witnesses at the scene of the crash told police the vehicle the suspect and Karns were in crashed while passing another vehicle.

A witness to the crash was shot during the incident, but he is recovering at home.

Authorities believe Karns died of single gunshot wound to the head and was killed in Vanderburgh County.

Howell is being held at the Warrick County Jail on preliminary charges that include attempted murder.

Warrick County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police are leading the investigation with assistance from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department and Evansville Police Department.
