Public invited to meet the local candidates for mayor and council

The public is invited to meet the candidates that will be on the ticket in the upcoming Municipal Election at a special event hosted by the Dubois County Clerk’s Office and the Democratic and Republican parties of Dubois County.

The special Meet the Candidates event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Vincennes University Jasper Center for Technology, Innovation and Manufacturing on the campus.

The event is designed to allow voters the opportunity to meet the candidates on the ballot in the Nov. 7 election.

Candidates in the contested races will have the opportunity to give a three-minute speech to share details about themselves and their platforms for election. The contested races in the upcoming election include the following candidates and seats.

Huntingburg Mayor — Neil Elkins (Independent) and James Hopf (Republican)

Huntingburg Common Council-at-Large — Incumbent Councilman Tim Wehr (Independent) and Eric Jochim (Republican)

Huntingburg Council District 4 — Kerry Blessinger (Independent) and Pam Bolte (Republican)

Jasper Clerk-Treasurer — Incumbent Kiersten Knies (Democratic) and Bridgette Bartley (Republican)

Jasper Common Council-at-Large (two seats) — Incumbent Phil Mundy (Republican), Incumbent Nancy Eckerle (Republican) and Daniel Kreilein (Democratic)

Jasper Common Council District 3 — Incumbent Chad Lueken (Republican) and Ben Nowotarski (Democratic)

Jasper Common Council District 4 — Incumbent Dave Hurst (Democratic) and Vince Helming (Republican)

Additionally, the Superintendent of Northeast Dubois School Corporation, Dr. Tara Rasche, or a representative of the corporation will give an overview of the public question on the ballot for the corporation’s voters.

The county is now a vote center county which means any voter in the county can vote at any center. Early voting in the county begins on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at the Courthouse Annex, 602 Courthouse Square, Jasper.
