Public invited to celebrate U.S. Marine Corps birthday

  • 244th Birthday of the US Marine Corps (1775-2019)

The Southern Indiana Leathernecks will celebrate the 244th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps on November 9, 2019, and is inviting veterans and the public to attend.

The Second Continental Congress established the Continental Marines on 10 November 1775.  Each year near that date, Marines around the world celebrate the Marine Corps birthday.  The celebration may be a formal ball, a casual party, a cake shared with friends, or a simple “Happy Birthday, Marine!”

Locally, the Southern Indiana Leathernecks host the Marine Corps Ball, a formal dance celebrated by Marines, Navy Corpsmen and Navy Chaplins each year on the service’s birthday.

This year the Southern Indiana Leathernecks are inviting the public and veterans from other branches of the military to celebrate with them. Veterans and active-duty personnel are encouraged to be in uniform, if possible.

The event is from 6 to midnight on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Huntingburg Event Center. The cocktail hour starts at 6:00 p.m (cash bar) and a birthday ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. with the dinner and dance commencing afterward.

Admission is $40 per person. Register online at the Southern Indiana Leatherneck website at www.sildmarines.com (look for the registration link). Tickets will not be sold at the door, so please register as soon as possible
