Project Learning Tree Workshop for Educators, 4H and Scout Leaders on June 10

Join Indiana Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Let the Sun Shine In – Indiana as we explore Indiana’s beautiful, diverse, and resilient oak-hickory forest ecosystems! This one-day interactive and hands-on workshop is scheduled on Tuesday, June 10 at the Southern Indiana Purdue Agriculture Center, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EDT.   The Indiana PLT program offers professional development workshops for traditional and non-traditional educators looking to integrate trees, forests, and natural resources into their classrooms or programs. These active and engaging workshops provide educators with PLT materials, Professional Growth Plan points, and opportunities to share and collaborate with other environmentally-minded educators.

The cost to attend is $23.00 per person, payable by check upon arrival, made out to IFEF/PLT.  Attendees should plan to arrive prior to the 9:00 AM start time.  The workshop will be in the Southern Indiana Purdue Ag Center (SIPAC) Learning Building, located at 11371 E Purdue Farm Road, Dubois IN, 47527.  Please bring a lunch and dress for the weather, as part of the workshop will be outside.  Snacks and water will be provided.

All participants will receive an “Explore Your Environment: K-8 Activity Guide” that includes 50 hands-on, multidisciplinary activities to connect children to nature and increase young people’s awareness and knowledge about their environment. During the workshop, participants will experience several PLT activities, learn how to integrate PLT into their classroom or program, and get connected to the PLT network at the state and national level.  Educators attending will earn six Professional Growth Plan points.

Project Learning Tree is an award-winning, internationally recognized environmental education program that uses the forest as a “window to the world”, helping young people gain an awareness and knowledge of the world around them and their place within it.  PLT’s ready-made activities and lesson plans can integrate easily into an existing curriculum and can be used to supplement all subject areas.  Students develop skills in creative problem solving, critical thinking, and evaluation and research while having fun.  PLT activities correlate to both state and national educational standards, and are useful to formal and non-formal educators from pre-school through high school.  PLT is designed to teach students HOW to think, not tell them what to think.   Visit the National Project Learning Tree website to learn more about PLT’s curriculum offerings and national initiatives.
