Prescription drug buy ends in arrest in Huntingburg

Huntingburg – Huntingburg police arrested a Huntingburg man on Wednesday after setting up a sting operation based on information received through the new drug investigation officer with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
According to police, Deputy John Anderson contacted them to report 53-year-old Doyle L. Tart Jr. was attempting to buy prescription pills from a woman living at the Pleasant View Apartments. Huntingburg Detective Ronnie Bowman contacted the woman and learned that Tart had been to the apartment several times on Wednesday attempting to buy Lortabs –a prescription pain-killer combining acetaminophen and hydrocodone– and had offered her $2 per pill.
Bowman had the woman arrange a meeting with Tart to buy pills at her apartment. Tart arrived and purchased the pills but was stopped by Det. Bowman, Chief Art Parks and Lt. Paul Lehr as he attempted to leave the apartment complex. Police located the pills on Tart’s person and then placed him under arrest for possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance.
Due to the crime occurring in a family housing complex the charge was a Class C Felony.
Tart was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 5:46 p.m. on a $5000 cash bond.
