Power line causes small fire, repair closes 2nd Avenue

Second Avenue in Jasper will be closed until 7 or 8 p.m. Friday as the Jasper Electrical Department replaces a utility pole.

The incident began when a passing semi-tractor trailer snagged a power line feeding a residence along the 1100 block of Second Avenue. The power line was pulled down, which caused a portion of the residence’s yard to catch fire, affecting about a quarter acre, according to Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang.

After putting the fire out, electric utility crews repairing the line determined the utility pole it was attached to needed to be replaced.

While the work is being completed, the road will remain closed for two to three hours.
