Portersville man arrested on arson count
Jasper police arrested a man today for allegedly throwing a burning object at a trailer.
Tuesday at 12:11 a.m., the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department was called to Maple Grove Trailer Court for the report of a fire at Lot 62.
The fire extinguished itself. Officers determined it had been caused when a burning object had been thrown under the trailer.
After an investigation was conducted by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office and the Jasper Police Department, they determined Joseph A. Mastin, 24, of Portersville, was allegedly responsible for the fire.
According to police, as they were attempting to place Mastin into custody for a Level 4 felony count of arson, he resisted arrest, which led to an additional misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
