Police find 78 baggies of marijuana during traffic stop

Indiana State Police seized 78 grams of marijuana while conducting a traffic stop near Loogootee Sunday evening.

According to authorities, Trooper Andrew Beaver was patrolling U.S. 50 near Loogootee at about 8:27 p.m. when he observed a vehicle driving over the posted speed limit. Beaver stopped the car and met with the driver, 18-year-old Thor A. King of Batesville. During the stop, Beaver smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle.

While speaking with King, Beaver asked Martin County Deputy Tyler Reed and his K9 partner Virka to assist him with the stop.

During the investigation, officers located 78 individually packaged baggies, each containing 1 gram of marijuana, in a large glass container. Officers additionally found a large digital scale, a receipt book, and a glass pipe used for smoking marijuana.

King was charged with Level 6 felony counts of dealing in marijuana over 30 grams, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of marijuana over 30 grams as well as a Class C misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia. He was placed into custody without incident and transported to the Martin County Jail.
