Polar Plunge set to make a splash this weekend

FERDINAND, Ind. — Brave souls across Dubois County will take the icy plunge this Sunday, February 15th, as the 2026 Dubois County Plunge returns to Ferdinand State Forest.
The annual fundraising event, organized under the motto “We Aren’t Crazy, We ARE Lucky!”, invites participants to gather at 2:00 p.m. EST before taking the frigid dive at 3:00 p.m.
For $20, participants receive a commemorative t-shirt and the bragging rights that come with plunging into winter waters. Those willing to pledge an additional $50 will also receive a towel—a welcome amenity for the chilly aftermath.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center and area food banks, making each shiver count toward supporting critical community services.
Organizers stress several safety tips for participants: bring a robe for warmth while waiting, keep feet covered until the last moment, pack extra towels or blankets, and wear loose-fitting, layered clothing. Most importantly, participants are warned against diving or entering the water headfirst.
Registration requires a signed waiver and release form, with parental or guardian signatures required for anyone under 18. Checks should be made payable to the YMCA and marked “for plunge.”
