Pilot injured in Huntingburg Airport plane crash

_dsc7923A pilot was injured when the 1941 Luscombe antique single-engine airplane he was operating crashed.

The pilot, identified as Steve Miller, was able to exit the plane on his own after the crash that was reported at around 9:57 a.m. According to Huntingburg police, the pilot was awake and answering questions before he was taken from the scene by ambulance.

“We are thankful that Steve was able to walk away from this aircraft incident today with minor abrasions and bruises,” Airport Manager Travis McQueen stated.

McQueen stated early indications pointed to a stiff crosswind being a factor in the crash. The wind was recorded at gusting up to 18 knots out of the south around the time of the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration was expected to be at the scene later today to complete an investigation. Meanwhile, Indiana State Police are handling the crash scene until their arrival.

Huntingburg Police Department and Volunteer Fire Department, Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene as well.

The runway was closed while the investigation was ongoing but reopened to allow a passenger plane to depart.
