Persohn to take over as Jasper’s Assistant Chief

Persohn was sworn in by Jasper Clerk/Treasurer Juanita Boehm with his family present.

Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz named Officer Aaron L. Persohn as Assistant Chief of Police.

Persohn has been with the Jasper Police Department for 14 years including serving as Sergeant since 2016. He has served or is certified as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Firearms Instructor, General Instructor Certification – 2013, Emergency Response Team Member since 2007, Police Observer Sniper Course where he graduated as Top Sniper. He graduated 4th in his class from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

He has volunteered as a Jasper Youth Baseball Coach and a school volunteer or classroom assistant.

“I’m looking forward to having Aaron Persohn as my Assistant Chief,” said Chief of Police Nathan Schmitt. “I know that his leadership skills and commitment to the City of Jasper will be a great benefit to the police department. Aaron has the respect of the other officers and shares the common goal of continuing to provide the best law enforcement service to our community.”

Persohn and his wife, Casey, have three children. He replaces Schmitt as Assistant Chief after he was named Chief of Police by Mayor Seitz following the passing of Chief J. Michael Bennett in August.
