Perry County man killed in ATV rollover
A Perry County man was killed after being pinned under an ATV while training his hunting dogs Saturday morning.
Donald Gill, 54, of Leopold, was training his dogs for squirrel hunting Saturday morning but family members grew concerned after the dogs returned to the home without Gill. The family went searching for Gill and located him about half a mile from the house pinned under his overturned Polaris Ranger ATV in a cornfield off Oliver Road.
Gill was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Coroner’s Office. Assisting agencies included the Perry County Sheriff’s Department and Perry County EMS.
Gill was not wearing a helmet or utilizing the machine’s manufactured safety belts at the time. Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating an ATV.
