Perry County man arrested after firing gun during domestic and then barricading himself in residence

A Monday evening domestic disturbance at a northern Perry County residence turned into a barricaded situation before ending peacefully.

The Perry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic disturbance on Doolittle Mills Road, English, at around 8:20 p.m. According to police, the domestic included physical violence.

Deputies were informed that the resident, 34-year-old Peter M. Jacobs, had struck his wife and fired a round from a rifle into the ceiling. He had also confined his wife and 3-year old child in the residence.

Officers from the Perry County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police arrived to find that Jacobs had released his wife and child and had barricaded himself in the residence with numerous firearms.

Indiana State Police SWAT and Hostage Negotiator team members arrived on scene and at 12:40 a.m., talked Jacobs into peacefully coming out of his residence to the street where he was placed into custody.

Jacobs was transported to and lodged in the Perry County Jail on charges filed by the Perry County Sheriff’s Department. He was charged with Level 6 felony counts of criminal confinement, recklessness with a firearm and domestic battery in the presence of a minor.
