Perline R. Schaefer, 90

Perline R. Schaefer, 90 of Ferdinand formerly of St. Meinrad died Sunday March 17, 2013 at St. Charles Health Campus, Jasper.

She was born October 11,1922 to Leo F. and Clara (Jasper) Ernst, in Siberia, IN. She married Othmar A. Schaefer on November 26, 1940 in St. Martin Of Tours Catholic Church, Siberia. He preceded her in death on August 19,1999.

Perline was a member of St. Meinrad Parish, and its St. Elizabeth Society & Ladies Sodality ,Ferdinand Senior Citizens and was a Oblate of St. Benedict, and a member of St. Meinrad Legion Post 366 Auxillary.

Perline and her husband Othmar made “Hurricane Pride” Sorghum for 40 years at their farm in St. Meinrad. Perline was a homemaker, and enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning. She worked at St. Meinrad Archabbey as a housekeeper,and also worked at Jasper Rubber Plant with her husband until they retired.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Kenny, Otsie Lee, and an infant David. Two daughters, Debra and Christina. 2 sisters, Mary Quinlin, and Rita Gogel. One brother Victor Ernst, and a great-granddaughter.

Surviving are 1 son, Larry Schaefer and his wife Cindy of Ferdinand, 5 daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Marilyn) Haefling of Evanston, Mrs. Michael (Pat) Hochgesang, and Ms. Brenda Stallings & Curt Trainer both of Jasper, Mrs. Steve (Shirley) Haug of Ferdinand, Mrs. Kim (Donna) Klein of St. Croix, & a daughter in law, Barb Schaefer, of Santa Claus, 33 grandchildren & 60 great-grandchildren. 1 sister, Mrs. Edwin (Lucille) Hendricks of Virginia, and 1 brother, Richard Ernst of Jasper.

Funeral services 10:00 a.m. CDT Wednesday in St. Meinrad Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 p.m. CDT Tuesday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. CDT Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Meinrad Parish.
