Pedestrian struck and killed on State Road 57

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle south of the City of Washington early Friday morning.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department was notified of the incident at 5:48 a.m. when they were dispatched to State Road 57 near Jones and Sons, Inc, 1262 S. State Road 57.

According to authorities, John Hefferman, 47, of Washington, was southbound on SR 57 in a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck when he struck Cody Arnold, 31.

Arnold was pronounced dead at the scene by Daviess County Deputy Coroner Dean Guthrie.

Hefferman was not injured in the accident.

According to deputies, the accident remains under investigation.

Southwest Medical, Washington Police Department, and the coroner’s office assisted at the scene.
