Pedestrian hit while helping change tire
Deputies are investigating a crash involving a pedestrian near Dubois Friday afternoon.
According to police, the sheriff’s office was advised of a broken down vehicle on State Road 56 just east of County Road 400 East. While enroute to help the motorist, a 9-1-1 call was received that a pedestrian at the scene had been struck by a vehicle.
Deputies determined that James Taber, 41, of Perry County, had stopped to assist the occupants of the broken down vehicle. While Taber was changing the tire on the vehicle, Nancy Brosmer, 83, of Dubois, who was eastbound in a 2008 Mercury SUV on State Road 56 at the time, swerved to avoid the stranded vehicle but struck Taber on the right side. The impact sent him into the air over Brosmer’s vehicle and he landed nearby, police said.
Dubois First Responders were called to the scene to assist with medical care and traffic control. A Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services transported Taber to Memorial Hospital for his injuries. He was later released.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is still ongoing.
This story has been updated to reflect Taber went airborne over Brosmer’s vehicle.
