Paul Allen Newton, 82, Petersburg

Paul Allen Newton, 82, of Petersburg, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026.

He was born October 26, 1943, to E. Curran and Beatrice Johnson Newton in Washington, Ind.

He graduated from Washington High School in 1961 and married Betty M. Miley on February 17, 1963. They celebrated their 63rd Anniversary this year.

Paul was an ordained minister of the Free Methodist Church.

He loved to garden, hunt, fish, and spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Betty; three children, Jeffrey (Lisa) Newton of Indianapolis, Steven (Jami) Newton of Spring Arbor, Mich., and Annita (Doug) Henson of Petersburg; nine grandchildren, Lance (Rachelle) Newton of Land O’ Lakes, Fla., Bryce (Jonathan) Newton of Willington, UK, Sarah (Alex) Tinklenberg of Indianapolis, Kara Newton of Spring Arbor, Mich., Beth Newton of Spring Arbor, Mich., Samuel (Mackenzie) Henson of Petersburg, Blake (Vee) Henson of Petersburg, Joel (Morgan) Henson of Lafayette, and Austin Henson (girlfriend Karley Kavanaugh) of Petersburg; two great-grandchildren, Jovie and Jack Newton; brothers, Ronald, Larry, Rollie, John, Sisters, Katie, Beth.

Paul was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn; two brothers, David and James; his parents, Curran and Beatrice Newton; in-laws, Howard Junior and Mary L. Miley; Claude Ficklin; and brother-in-law, David L. Miley.

Services will be Wednesday, July 29 at Petersburg Free Methodist Church, 202 Walnut St., with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. EST and the funeral on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 1 p.m. EST at the church. Visitation will also take place from 12 p.m. EST until service time on Thursday.

Donations can be made to the Petersburg Free Methodist Church for the “Philippine Street Children Fund.”

The family is thankful for the wonderful care from “Heart to Heart Hospice.”
