Paoli woman dies in single-vehicle accident near Crystal

A crash near Crystal Monday afternoon took a Paoli woman’s life.

According to deputies, Beverly A. Stiles, 71, was eastbound on State Road 56 at about 3:41 p.m. when the crash occurred. Stiles was able to tell a deputy at the crash scene that she moved her 2002 Toyota Camry to the outside of the roadway to make way for an approaching combine. The Toyota’s wheels went off the road and then traveled into a ditch before striking the end of the ditch. The car then reentered the roadway before coming to a stop.

The Dubois Volunteer Fire Department extricated Stiles from the vehicle and she was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital. According to authorities, first responders had to cut the vehicle apart in several areas to extricate her. From Memorial Hospital, She was LifeFlighted to St. Mary’s Medical Center where she died from internal injuries sustained in the crash.

Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Lost River Volunteer Fire Department of Martin County and a Dr. Auto wrecker also assisted at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.
