Redemption Christian Church in Jasper hosted its annual Student Ministry kickoff Sunday evening with free food, games, a worship service and a paint battle between the different grades.
More than 400 students from seventh through twelfth grade attended the fun event that celebrates the ministry hosted through the church’s three campus locations: Jasper, Tell City and Loogootee.

Students mingled in the church’s foyer, eating pizza, playing ping pong, cornhole, Jenga and other games until the service began. In the image, Grayson Freyberger, 12, launches a ping pong ball across the table–Photos Matthew Crane.

During the opening to the worship service, Student Minister Makayla Lance (left) and Student Minister Aric Wade (right) reacted as Elise Niehaus sank a basket from the stage. Student contestants had one minute to sink three baskets, one in each basketball goal on either side of the gym and a Little Tike one set up in an aisle among the students.Niehaus won the contest with two baskets.
Tell City Campus Minister Corey Andry introduced the three students, one from each campus, giving a testimony during the special service.
The Well student ministry band led the students through worship songs before closing the service.
Students danced and sang during the worship.
Students were paired into teams by grade, and the paint battles began.
Students were supposed to refill from buckets of paint along their lines before running back into the fray. However, most eventually just started spraying their teammates.

In the final round, a senior student grabbed one of the buckets of paint to throw at Facilities Director Kyle Howard. Howard retaliated with the bucket of red paint.

Students also played volleyball or football, and a dunking booth provided a quick way to rinse the paint off.
