Ozone Alert issued for Dubois County

Dubois County is under an ozone alert issued by the Evansville Environmental Protection Agency, Vanderburgh County Health Department and Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

According to those agencies the rising temperatures could lead to a buildup of ozone and could impact sensitive groups. Older adults, children and individuals with heart or lung disease are especially susceptible to problems when exerting themselves outside. These individuals should especially avoid outdoor work between 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Besides Dubois County, the warning impacts Vanderburgh, Posey, Gibson, Knox, and Spencer Counties.

During Ozone Alerts open burning is banned although grilling is allowed but discouraged. People are also encouraged to use public transit to limit driving. If you do drive, don’t let your vehicle idle and wait to fuel up until after 6 p.m. Gas powered equipment like lawn mowers shouldn’t be operated between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Other avoidable activities include the use of harsh chemicals or solvents and oil based paints.
