Overturned vehicle snarls Hwy 56 traffic

Jasper — An overturned vehicle snarled traffic on State Road 56 at about 7:35 a.m. Monday.

According to police, Carrie A. Mehringer, 17, of SR 56, Jasper, was westbound in a 2004 Dodge Neon just east of County Road 400W when she ran off the north side of the road.

Mehringer over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then flipped after striking a concrete culvert for the driveway at 1924 W. State Road 56. The vehicle continued sliding on its rooftop striking mailboxes owned by Francis Smith at that same address.

Mehringer complained of pain to her head and had scratches from the accident but was not taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The Dodge was considered a total loss.

Traffic was routed through the Shiloh Methodist Church parking lot while police cleared the scene.
