Otwell teen hospitalized after ATV accident

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ATV accident that sent a teenager to the hospital.

Kayla Wheat, 14, of Otwell, was riding an ATV operated by Jade Bartley, 14, of Otwell, when the ATV rolled and landed on her at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The two were on private property along West Portersville Road in Dubois County.

They were able to push the ATV off of Wheat. She complained of leg pain and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Both teens were wearing helmets.

Witnesses told police the ATV overturned when a tire got caught on a tree root while it was going down a hill.

Responding agencies included the Ireland Fire Department, Memorial Ambulance Service, first responders and Indiana Conservation Officers.
