Othmar “Ottie” Betz age 89 of Celestine passed away at 10:25 P.M. Sunday June 12, 2011 at his home in Celestine. He was born October 10, 1921 to:Louis and Veronica (Persohn) Betz. He married Alberta Verkamp August 6, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She passed away November 2, 1994

Memberships include: St. Celestine Catholic Church, St. Vincent De Paul Society,Celestine Community Club, St. Anthony American Legion honorary member, Schnellville Conservation Club, Mariah Hill Conservation Club, He was a choir member at St. Celestine Church, received the Simon Brute award, Celestine Distinguished Citizen award

He was co-owner of Betz Bros. Butcher Shop, drove bus for 24 years, and a life long farmer and was Hall Township Trustee

He was a WW2 Veteran and received many medals and awards

Surviving:

  • 7 daughters-Mrs. Kenneth (Luanna) Wessel of Mariah Hill, Mrs. Herb (Patty) Burke of Celestine, Mrs. John (Janie) Kempf of Bretzville, Mrs. Ray (Sylvia) Kern of Mariah Hill, Mrs. Kurt (Annie) Voelkel of Boone TWP, Mrs. Steve (Franny) Brosmer of Jasper, and Mrs. Greg (Kathy) Knust of Schnellville
  • 5 sons- Melvin , Edwin, Vic and Hilbert Betz all of Celestine, Bob Betz of Schnellville
  • 48 Grandchildren
  • 25 Great Grandchildren 2 step great grandchildren

He is the last survivor of his family.

Preceded in death besides his wife is 1 son John who died in infancy 3 brothers-Jerome, Joe and Alois Betz.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 16, 2011 at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine IN. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. St. Anthony American Legion will conduct the Military Grave Side Rites.
