Oscar F. Recker Jr., 76

Oscar F. Recker Jr., age 76, of Jasper, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at home.
Oscar was born in Jasper, Indiana on December 18, 1936 to Oscar Sr. and Ellanora (Vonderheide) Recker. He married Sylvia Merkley on January 7, 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Indiana.
He worked as a construction worker for Streicher Construction for 22 years, and served in the United States Army in Germany from 1956-1958.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and the Holy Name Society.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and playing Euchre. He was also a St. Louis Cardinal and Dubois County Bomber fan.
Surviving, wife, Sylvia Recker, Jasper; four sons, Charles “Chuck” Recker and fiancé Cindy Laake, Stan Recker, Fred Recker and his wife Lisa, and Rob Recker, all of Jasper; five grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Gigi, Elizabeth, and Emily Recker; four sisters, Viola Himsel and her husband Jim, Jasper, Rita Mae Purcell, North Highlands, CA, Linda Lampert and her husband Dennis of Jasper, Susie Leinenbach and her husband Pat, Huntingburg; one brother, Jay Recker and his wife Mary, Jasper; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one sister Shirley Fischer.
Funeral services for Oscar F. Recker Jr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday (September 6, 2013) at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. The St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday (September 5, 2013) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at the church.
