Orville J. “Buck” Schneider Jr., 58 of Birdseye passed away at his home Wednesday January 30th. He was born April 19, 1954 in Huntingburg to Orville J. Sr. & Bernadette K. (Merkley) Schneider.

Buck was a retired construction worker for Crider & Crider, Bloomington, & Laborers Local # 581 & Operators Local Union # 181. He was part owner of Deb’s Truck Stop, Birdseye after retiring. He was a life member of the Birdseye Conservation Club, St. Anthony Conservation Club, & member of St. Anthony American Legion Post 493.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and hunting, and making and canning soup. He especially loved making soup for many local fund raisers, and made 40 or more gallons at a time with his brothers, & Smitty.

Surviving are his fiancé, Deb Ernst, his mother, Bernadette Schneider of Schnellville; two daughters, Mrs. Clint (Rachel) Weyer of Ferdinand and Mrs. Tracy (Shelly) Brown of Bristow; three grandchildren, Mitch Brown, Ethan Weyer, and Cora Weyer; three brothers, Andrew Schneider, Tom Schneider, and Kenny Schneider all of Birdseye; four sisters, Mrs. Maurice (Marilyn) Hedinger of St. Anthony, Doris Haas of Jasper, Mrs. Randy (Connie) Thewes of Celestine, and Mrs. George (Cathy) Tolbert of Paoli. He was preceded in death by his father, Orville J. Schneider Sr. and brother, Gary Schneider.

Funeral services 11:00 AM Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Schnellville, burial with military graveside services by St. Anthony Legion Post 493 in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and 7:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.
