One-time disbursement brings $4.7 million to county taxing entities

With the passage of Senate Bill 67, the taxing entities in Dubois County are set to receive a total of $4,753,655 as estimated in a report prepared by the Office of Fiscal and Management Analysis.

This money comes from a fund the state created in 2009 that currently holds $450 million of collected local option income taxes in escrow in anticipation of further detrimental impacts by the 2008 recession.

The bill authored by Republicans Brandt Hershman, Luke Kenley and Carlin Yoder will disburse $430 million of that amount to the counties from which it was withheld beginning in 2009.

The county, city and towns will have to use 75 percent of the funds for roads while the remaining 25 percent can be used however they deem fit. The other taxing units can use the money however they wish.

In May, the following disbursements will be made to Dubois County’s taxing entities.
