Second child in Paoli shooting dies

Update:

The six-year-old boy involved in the Paoli shooting has succumbed to his injuries.

Leon Gehl, 6, Paoli, was shot on Tuesday in his Paoli home by his father, 37 year old Jeremy Gehl. Leon was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, where, according to the Jefferson County, Kentucky Coroner’s Office, he passed away today.

Leon and his sister, Addison Randolph, 3, were both shot and killed by their father during a domestic dispute, in which Gehl had attacked Melissa Randolph, 33, with a knife and later took his own life.

A Paoli man shot two children before turning the gun on himself in an apparent domestic incident Tuesday evening.

Three-year-old Addison Gehl died from the gunshot wound she suffered from Jeremy Gehl, 37, who then shot six-year-old Leon Gehl, before shooting himself.

Jeremy Gehl was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

Both children and their mother, Melissa Randolph, 33, who suffered from laceration wounds, were taken by helicopter to Louisville hospitals. Randolph was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital and the two children were flown to Kosair Children’s Hospital. Randolph was transferred to Kosair to be with her son Leon who is still in critical condition.

According to police, they were contacted about a shooting on the 500 block of North Helm Street at about 5:25 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, the found Randolph outside the residence suffering from multiple lacerations. Officers entered the home and found the two children and Gehl suffering from gunshot wounds.

A third child in the home was unharmed.

Investigators determined that Randolph and her husband, Gehl, became involved in a physical altercation inside their home. During the fight, Gehl attacked Randolph with a knife, striking her multiple times.

Upon hearing the commotion, the children, Leon and Addison, came downstairs and Gehl shot both children before shooting himself.

State Police investigators and crime scene technicians, as well as officers from the Orange County Sheriff’s and Paoli Police Departments continue to conduct their investigation at the residence.
