Old School Baseball League ends regular season; Championship game next weekend

The Huntingburg Happy Hunters finished their inaugural 2011 OSBL season 2-3 but before they departed they provided proof that the powerful Dubois Jeeps with their roster of former State Champions were not invincible. Next Saturday’s 7 pm match-up with the league runner ups- the 4-1 Holland Dutchmen- is anything but certain for Dubois. The Jeeps beat Huntingburg 3-0 but the Happy Hunters pitching staff led by 3 shut down innings from their captain Dave Marcum set the tone for a close hard fought pitching duel that the Jeeps won late.

The 5-0 Jeeps have set a new standard in the 2-year old 21 and over wood bat Old School Baseball League with their outstanding play and sportsmanship.

“They have been a tribute to good baseball and we are happy to have the Jeeps as members of our league” said OSBL League President Scott Gladish “and we congratulate them on winning the Regular season title”.

The Jeeps must best Holland to claim the out-right league title and the town council trophy, currently residing in Winslow.

In other OSBL action last Saturday night the Holland Dutchmen beat the Dale Golden Aces 10-5 and the Winslow Eskimos last years title winner easily dispatched with the Ireland Spuds 9-2 behind the pitching of Bo Daves and Doug VanMeter and the unselfish play of Center fielder Chad Whitehead who walked and scored twice and made a fantastic running catch in the outfield to shut down a bases loaded threat from the hardworking Spuds.

The Eskimos finished the season at 3-2 in third place behind Holland and Dubois in the 6 team OSBL. The Spuds finished 1-4 but won for the first time in their 2 year OSBL history beating Dale in week 3.

It was a very good 2nd season for the OSBL as the league drew over 2000 fans to League Stadium for the 5 game season and successfully added two new teams, Dubois and Huntingburg.
