Old Jasper Day and Strawberry Fest this Sunday

In a weekend of family fun that includes the Jasper Chalk Walk and Redevelop Old Jasper Coalition 20th Celebration on Saturday, Sunday will feature the annual Old Jasper Day and Strawberry Festival in the Dave Buehler Plaza on the Riverwalk.

Everything begins at 11 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m. The Jasper Lion’s Club will be serving up locally-grown fresh strawberries, sandwiches and other treats in the shelter houses in the plaza.

The Lion’s Club of Jasper will be donating all the proceeds from this year’s Strawberry Festival to the Dubois County Special Olympics. Additionally, the nonprofit Differently Abled will have a couple of game booths at the festival along with the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department, Jasper Police Department and the Dubois County Humane Society.

“Jon & Stacey” will begin performing in the gazebo at noon.

Kids can be transformed into fun characters for a small charge with FacePainting by Ruth.

Patoka 2000 will also begin Duck Race ticket sales for their July 13 event. Sponsor one plastic duck for $5 or 3/$10. Proceeds will benefit Patoka 2000’s Jasper beautification projects. 

The Spirit of Jasper will be running, offering hourly train rides between 12 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $3 per person. Visitors can also catch a short ride around Old Jasper in a horsedrawn carriage from the depot during the same time. There is no charge to ride but donations are appreciated. 

Any time a break is needed, the RiverWalk is beckoning. The serenity of nature is just a few steps away, and it’s open all day, too, not just on Old Jasper Day, but year-round. Head down to the riverfront on May 20.
