Officials request public assistance after three fires in Washington

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security and city of Washington officials are seeking the public’s help after three fires occurred in close succession on the city’s west side on Monday, May 18, 2026.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to 307 Cable Ave. for a mobile home fire. At around 6 p.m., fire crews responded to a second mobile home fire at 512 Vine St. Just 15 minutes later, at 6:15 p.m., firefighters were called to a fire inside a home under construction on Bent Ave.

Investigators are actively working to determine the cause of each fire. Due to the proximity of the incidents in both time and location, officials are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or has information about any of the fires to come forward.

Tips can be reported anonymously by calling the Indiana Arson Hotline at 1-800-382-4628. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
