Norman A. Waninger, 86, Huntingburg

Norman A. Waninger, 86, of Huntingburg, passed away on September 28, 2026, at his home.

Norman was born August 20, 1940, in Fulda to Max and Frances (Kleiser) Waninger.

He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Braunecker on May 19, 1962, at St. Anthony. Betty preceded him in death on May 25, 2018.

Norman retired from IMI as a truck driver. Norman was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Anthony Church, St. Anthony American Legion Post 493, a former member of St. Anthony Community Center and St. Anthony Conservation Club. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, and more recently, gardening.

Norman is survived by his two daughters, Denise (Rick) Kitten of Ferdinand and Brenda Ison of Jeffersonville; four grandchildren, Hannah Ison, Max Kitten, Ben Kitten, and Sara Kitten; two great-grandchildren, Everett Kitten and Brooks Kitten; siblings, Anna Mae Peters of Fulda, Agnes Witte of Ferdinand, and Robert (Diane) Waninger of Lamar.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brothers, Edgar Waninger, Alvin Waninger, Dennis Waninger, Clarence Waninger, and Frank Waninger; sister, Pauline Gogel; and son-in-law, Byron Ison.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. EST at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Anthony of Paduca Campus, St. Anthony, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. St. Anthony American Legion Post 493 will conduct military graveside rights.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. EST to 8:00 p.m. EST at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand, and again on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. EST until the time of services at St. Anthony Church.
