Norma Kreilein responds to Schuetter/Hopf letters and city leadership

Any expectation of accountability on the part of the city seems to result in disappointment if not nausea. The prospect of the city showing up for a true debate then seeing the bias shown by our representatives who have “not made up their minds” was hopefully illuminating. Anyone questioning this should be forced to watch the “forum” until they “get it.

The comparison viewpoints in the Herald today are another example. Dr. Hopf wrote a commentary two days ago, followed by Wayne Schuetter “rebutting” today with the same misleading information that failed to sway opposing citizens’ opinions so far. The issue of bias and accountability continue to resurface. What the city doesn’t seem to understand is that their bias (saying they haven’t made up their mind but being a continuous infomercial), poor communication (saying they are addressing concerns but never interacting except in a 28 person panel show of arrogance) and reckless timetable (not allowing for adequate preparation on anyone’s part) have alerted citizens of all walks of life that there is a problem here, and it is not just with the biomass proposal. Their behavior has eroded trust in their leadership, and more and more people are witnessing it on a personal level. The rebuttal to Dr. Hopf’s analysis is typical: They always have an “answer” that lacks citation or a “promise” yet to be delivered or math that minimalizes risk instead of acknowledging it. Remember all of this is based on “calculations” BY TWISTED OAK that are theoretical. Multiple challenges and questions are and will remain unanswered. I think Mr. Schuetter should respond to some of the questions from the forum that were evaded before he attempts to rebut Dr. Hopf’s commentary. To emerge from the forum on the offensive and not apologize for the biased format, biased consultants, and unanswered questions is arrogant but typical.

Instead of trying to eliminate the appearance of impropriety, we should eliminate impropriety itself.

  1. Question to the Editor: Have the Schuetter/Hopf letters referred to been published on the DC Freep site? I looked but couldn’t find them. Thank you.
