Norma Jean Jean, 83, Bloomington

Norma Jean Jean, 83, of Bloomington, passed peacefully at Bell Trace Health and Living at 4:16 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Born on January 2, 1943, in Schnellville, Norma was the eldest of twelve children born to Victor A. and Cecelia M. (Brosmer) Stetter. She grew up learning the value of faith, family, and hard work—values that guided her throughout her life.

Norma married Rex Jean, and together they built a home centered on love and devotion.

She leaves behind two daughters, Piper (Nathan) Hottell of Columbus and Kristin (Rich) Hull of Springville; a stepdaughter, Theresa Bond of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom were a constant source of pride and joy.

Norma is also survived by all 11 of her siblings, Jim (Inez) Stetter of Schnellville, Ruth (Butch) Fenneman of Holland, Doris (Leon) Dilger of Mariah Hill, Bill (Marcia) Stetter of Dubois, Marylee (Paul) Steinmetz of Ferdinand, Rosalee (Rich) Fleck of Huntingbird, Gary (Anita) Stetter of Huntingbird, Richard Stetter of Dubois, Stanley (Brenda) Stetter of Schnellville, Diane (Kevin) Wertman of Holland, and Betty (Jim) Brannan of Jasper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two beloved grandchildren, and her son-in-law, Ralph Bond.

Norma worked for RCA in Bloomington for 14 years and later for IGA, but her greatest work was caring for her home and family. She was a gifted quilter and a devoted gardener. Her vegetable gardens were a labor of love, and for many summers she supplied local markets with tomatoes and blackberries. Her roadside produce stand at the family’s longtime home on Hartstrait Road became a familiar and cherished stop for neighbors and passersby alike. In her later years, Norma found deep contentment quilting at her frame or tending her flower gardens. She especially loved gathering her family around the table and feeding those she loved, a joy made even greater by the presence of her grandchildren.

A woman of deep faith, Norma was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and an active member of the Daughters of Isabella for more than 45 years.

A Funeral Mass for Norma will be celebrated at noon on Friday, January 23, 2026, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Bloomington. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Allen Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Norma’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Dementia Society of America
