Norbert E. Olinger, 84, of Huntingburg, passed away at 1:15 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2015, at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg.

He was born December 14, 1930 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Ray and Mary (Kordes) Olinger. He married Judy E. Nahler on December 31, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

Mr. Olinger graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1948 and from Purdue University in 1952.  He then served for two years as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

In 1954, he began a career as a partner in Olinger Construction Co., in Huntingburg. He also served as a director with First National Bank of Huntingburg. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Young Men’s Institute, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2366, American Legion, Huntingburg Jaycees and past-president of the Huntingburg Country Club. He was a charter member of the Purdue Alumni Club of Dubois County. Mr. Olinger was a private pilot for fifty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leeray Olinger; and two brothers-in-law, Leroy Mundy and Kenneth Tretter.

He is survived by his wife, Judy E. Olinger of Huntingburg; one son, Kent Olinger of Huntingburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura (Greg) Olinger-Tucker of Boulder, Colo.; two sisters, Rosemary Mundy of Huntingburg and Doris Tretter of Huntingburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Max (Dorothy) Olinger of Santa Claus; and two granddaughters, Amalia Frick of New York City, N.Y. and Hannah Frick of New York City, N.Y.

Memorial services for Norbert Olinger will be held at 11 a.m., EDT on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg. Interment of his cremains will be held at a later date. The Rev. Mark West will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday; and also at Salem United Church of Christ from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday morning. A vigil prayer service conducted by Rev. Fr. Ryan Hilderbrand will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the Nass & Son Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grissom Scholarship Fund of the Purdue Alumni Club of Dubois County.
