Nonprofits Gain Board Perspective

Attendees representing thirty different nonprofit organizations strengthened their skills in an effort to build capacity among their board of directors at the Huntingburg Foundation’s BetterTogether Initiative during the first of Old National Bank’s Luncheon Series.
The first luncheon series, entitled “Nonprofit Boards That Work”, drew 51 participants to the event held over an extended lunch hour. Attendees came from small and large institutions and consisted of Executive Directors, Board Members, and dedicated volunteers.
June Miller, Regional Director of the Indiana Nonprofit Resource Network, lead the luncheon series, explaining the vital role that a Board of Directors has on a nonprofit organization.
“Nonprofits are an important backbone of local communities providing key services and engagement opportunities for community members,” said Sue Ellsperman, State Representative and participant at the luncheon. “I commend the Foundation on this very important initiative.”
Attendees were refreshed and taught the responsibilities of today’s nonprofit boards while also connecting with peers and discovering the good works of others. “It was a very beneficial experience for both established and upcoming organizations, said Joyce Fleck, Executive Director of Tri-Cap. “Even if someone just pulled one thing away, it was worth it. Our organization will be back for the rest,” Fleck said.
“We hope today’s luncheon was just a start for nonprofits building their own capacity,” said Joe Mundy, participant and Board Member for the Huntingburg Foundation. The Foundation focuses on assisting donors with perpetual investments in charity, and strengthening the nonprofits that benefit from these gifts has become a priority for the Foundation.
“With every investment like this from our Foundation, local nonprofits achieve greater heights, which provides a deeper impact for our donors,” Mundy said.
