NOAA Weather Radio system undergoing maintenance next week

Be sure to have alternative ways to receive updates on severe weather next week, as the National Weather Service will be upgrading its AWIPS computer system starting Monday, April 28, 2025. The upgrades will last at least until Wednesday, April 30, 2025. This will result in the NOAA Weather Radio transmitters that service Central Indiana being offline during the upgrade period.

This is part of a national rotation schedule for all National Weather Service (NWS) offices. As a result, there will not be any postponement if severe weather is forecast.

This will affect the following transmitters in Central Indiana:
Indianapolis (KEC-74, 162.550 MHz)
Bloomington (WXM -78, 162.450 MHz)
Putnamville (WXK-72, 162.400 MHz)
Monticello (WXK-74, 162.475 MHz)
Georgia (WWG-72, 162.500 MHz)
Edwardsport (WWG-83, 162.425 MHz)
Newport (KZZ-27, 162.425 MHz)
Seymour (WWG-73, 162.525 MHz)
Muncie (KJY-93, 162.425 MHz)

Please have a way to receive weather notifications such as an app on your cell phone like AccuWeather or Storm Shield. Listen to local weather radio stations WITZ/WQKZ; WBDC/WAXL.

There is a threat for severe weather on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, so you will need a way to receive notifications.
