Next Chapter in running for small business grant from Indiana Fever and Old National Bank

Erin and Jeremiah Smith had no idea their business, The Next Chapter, had been nominated for the Indiana Fever Small Business Assist Program presented by Old National Bank until they found out they were one of the finalists last week.
Along with the notification, the family was invited to attend Friday’s game and sit courtside during the pregame after going through an interview as part of the contest process.
Then, on Tuesday, members of the Indiana Pacers Sports and Entertainment team were in the downtown shop, creating a video that will be shared on social media. The coffee and bookstore’s popularity was evident as a crowd of supporters, regulars and after-school visitors stopped in for a special drink, conversation or work.
“It is super exciting to have someone chosen from Jasper and then to have them be a finalist,” said Kim Hagan, Old National Bank Jasper Market President and Community Banking Manager.
She stated this contest highlights Old National Bank’s commitment to small businesses.
“Old National realizes that when small businesses succeed, we all become better for it,” Hagan said. “Our communities thrive, neighborhoods thrive and everybody benefits.”
She encouraged everyone to visit and support the many small businesses in Dubois County and the region.

For the Smiths, it’s business as usual, except that on Tuesday, it was all hands on deck with the number of folks stopping in. Between serving up specialty drinks and coffees and ringing up customers, Erin and Jeremiah took a moment to express their gratitude for being nominated and for the community support they have received since opening a little over 15 months ago.
“I’ve been blown away by how much people have supported us and the fact we were nominated,” Erin said.
Jeremiah agreed, adding that if anything, the experience with the Indiana Fever will be a special memory they shared with their family.
“It’s been pretty magical,” he said.
Looking around the crowded shop, he added, “All these people in here, I think that affirms we’re doing exactly what we are supposed to be doing.”
The Smiths will find out if they are the winner by September 1, according to the contest website.
