New senior living development planned for Jasper

A multi-million dollar senior living development is being planned for Jasper.

Legacy Living of Indianapolis held a neighborhood meeting Monday night at Shiloh Methodist Church in Jasper to unveil plans for the new $17.5 to $18 million multi-purpose senior living community. It will be located on State Road 56 across from the church just east of Buschkoetter’s Nursery and Lawn Care Center.

Tony Schantz with Legacy Living explained the new development will feature housing options for seniors and provide additional services like assisted living, a nursing home and Alzheimer’s and dementia care facilities. It will feature 18 townhomes for independent living as well as a building with 70 independent and assisted living apartments.

Amenities will include outdoor kitchens, a movie theater, beauty shops, barbershops and a five-star restaurant experience.

According to Schantz, the development is something Dubois County and Jasper has been lacking, “a true senior living destination.”

“We were encouraged by the quality of the other providers here and the services they offer to seniors,” Schantz continued. “Predominantly though, they are skilled nursing home operators. Our expertise is licensed residential care and the residential atmosphere and feeling that the more independent residents are seeking.”
Developers say the project should clear any zoning hurdles by September with construction to begin sometime in the fall of 2017. Construction could take between 12 and 14 months but applications for the new facility will be taken beginning in February of 2018.
Rates for the new facility have not been revealed yet.
“We are looking forward to integrating with the community and becoming part of the family here in Jasper,” Schantz said.
