New Drug Court and Alcohol and Drug Program director named
Mike Denu will take over as director of the Drug Court and Alcohol and Drug Program at the Dubois County Community Corrections Department.
He replaces William Wells, who recently was appointed as the Community Corrections director.
Denu will start his job on October 1st and formerly worked at Southern Hills Counseling Center. He has served on the drug court team as a representative from the center.
Dubois County Circuit Court Judge Mark McConnell, who also chairs the community corrections board, notified the Dubois County Commissioners of Denu’s selection during Monday’s meeting.
McConnell also requested the commissioners grant an allowance for Denu to receive two weeks of paid vacation, effective January 1st, due to his years of service in corrections.
McConnell asserted that it has been done in the past for several other probation officers in the department.
The commissioners had a discussion concerning the county’s policy on vacation accrual and while they were not open to making exceptions, they did acknowledge that since others were granted the change, they would allow it this time as well. They voted unanimously to make the allowance.
McConnell says that his knowledge of the program and training makes him the right person for the job. “He’s intimately familiar with the program and how it works,” McConnell said. “He’s going to be a perfect fit.”
